The call by Member of Parliament Lupematasila Tologata Leia for the Government to consider random drug testing across the public servants, starting from Members of Parliament is “unjustifiable”.

Minister of Police and Prisons Faulao Harry Schuster said there are a number of factors that needs to be vetted properly before considering this bold move and at the moment there is no evidence drug testing is warranted.

The Minister also cautions this will infringe on the fundamental rights of the public servants.

In Parliament last month, Lupematasila expressed concerns over the increase of hard drugs in the Country and with the latest drug bust, led to the arrest of an Assistant Electoral Commissioner and thisis evident these hard drugs can only be afforded by people that have money.

Lupematasila then urged the Government to consider his plea as this will assist with the drug problem in the Country.
