The allocation of $200,000 for 51 Constituencies is among the achievements of the FAST Administration and highlighted during their first 100 days since taking office.
Prime Minister Fiame Naomi Mata’afa noted this is part of their pledge to the public on their promise of $1million tala for the respective Constituencies.
She said the process is underway and it is appropriate to set guidelines as to how the Districts will utilise these public funds.
She also made it clear the funding will not be used for access roads or seawall, as there are funding allocated for those projects.
However these funding are “seed money” and should be used to develop projects in the villages.
She said there are number of criticism against this project, yet it is beneficial for the districts.
Portion of the $1 million was included in the Government’s $982 million main budget for the 2021-2022 financial year, whereas a total of $11 million has been earmarked for their promise to the villages.
Fiame said other achievements during their 100 days since taking office is the funding allocated for Tourism industry of $5million to assist in the upgrade of hotels and beach fales.
Furthermore the Prime Minister pointed to the increasing of pension checks to $200 and stipends for the disability sector.
Also the Prime Minister pointed to that fees have been reduced by 20 percent across the government services.
