Minister of Police and Prisons, Faualo Harry Schuster says the arrest of Assistant Electoral Commissioner and a staff member from the office of the Office of the Electoral Commission will have an impact on the operation of the Commission.
However he has confidence the remaining staff will have carry on the duties of the office.
The Office of the Electoral Commission is responsible for the Country’s general elections.
Faualo who is also the Minister of the Electoral Commission said that criminal charges will warrant suspension for Afualo Darryl Mapu and Marie Fanueli who are both facing possession of narcotics.
These are the holding charges as police intends to file additional charges in this matter.
During the raid on Tuesday night, police confiscated baggies of methamphetamine or ice; pistols, hand guns, laptops, cell phones; rifles, as well as live ammunition and more than $3,000 cash.
Afualo and Fanueli are both remanded to the custody of police until the 31 January, 2022 when they will appear in the Supreme Court for criminal mention.
Minister of Police told Radio Polynesia, this should serve as a reminder to all the drug offenders in the Country, the police are vigilant now more then ever with the appearance of hard drugs in the country.
