Superintendent Taito Sefo Hunt, Captain of the $30 million tala Nafanua II that ran aground in Savaii is found guilty of three counts of negligence by a Police Tribunal.
Initially there were five charges, however the Captain was acquitted of two counts of misconduct.
The charges against the Captain of misconduct was heard before a tribunal that underwent last month.
Deputy Police Commissioner Leiataua Samuel Afamasaga confirmed the decision by the tribunal and noted the findings will be submitted to the Cabinet’s ordered Commission of Inquiry.
He declined to comment on the decision by the Tribunal.
There were three different investigations into the Nafanua II incident; the police inquiry, the C.O.I. and another separate investigation by the Ministry of Works Transport and Infrastructure.
The COI members are former Attorney General, Tuiloma Neroni Slade is chairing the C.O.I. alongside Tuilaepa Peter Rasch and former AC.E.O. of Health, Palanitina Tupuimatagi Toelupe.
At the moment the Nafanua II is in Australia for repairs.
