Independent Prosecutor Leinafo Taimalelagi Strickland has appealed the decision by the District Court to discharge without conviction of Police Prosecutor Khamtan Stanley and a Vaiusu High Chief, Ulugia Lomalasi Laufili.

This is in connection to the death of a 20-year-old from Vaiusu two years ago.

The matter was called before Supreme Court Justice, Niava Mata Tuatagaloa this morning.

Shane Wulf appeared on behalf of the Independent Prosecutor and noted that both defendants have been served; however an adjournment is required to finalise its position.

Justice Nia’ava scheduled this matter for next week.

Last month the Ministry of Police and Prisons reinstated Stanley.

In December the District Court discharged without conviction, Stanley and Ulugia and were ordered to pay $500 each.

The men were initially charged with manslaughter in connection to the death of a Vaiusu man. However the men pleaded guilty to a joint charge of causing bodily harm.

This case was initially held before the Supreme Court, however the charge was reduced to actual bodily harm, which both defendants pleaded guilty to, leading to the transferral of the matter to the District Court.
