A 51 year old man has been charged with murder and grievous bodily harm following an incident that occurred on Sunday, where one man died and two are fighting for their lives in the intensive care unit at the hospital.

Assistant Police Commissioner, Papalii Efo Baker-Moalele confirmed the 51 year old man has been charged with murder, with the possibility of more criminal charges.

The incident occurred in Tafatafa, Falealili on Sunday.

Papali’i Efo told Radio Polynesia the preliminary reports from the Police outpost in Falealili indicated there were six people in the car, five men and the driver who is a female.

They had been drinking since Saturday night until Sunday morning, then they left Lotofaga for Tafatafa.

It's alleged the drinking session continued until Sunday afternoon, when they left Tafatafa, their vehicle was stoned.

Two men took off on foot and left the other four; three of which were swearing on the road when they encountered the accused.

The Police further states, the men threw the 51 year old man with rocks and swore at him; the man went home, fetched his machete and upon return attacked the group of men.

The man suffered a cut on his neck and he died due to the severity of his injuries.

The other two were severely injured as well, one suffered a huge cut on his shoulder and will likely lose it while the other had severe cuts on his back, said the Assistant Police Commissioner.
