The Human Rights Protection Party has called on the Samoa Government not to allow any flights from American Samoa at this time, given the increasing number of community cases in the US Territory.

The confirmed positive cases for COVID-19 for American Samoa now stand at 135.

The HRPP Secretary, Member of Parliament, Leailepule Rimoni Aiafi during a press conference said protection of the borders and the people of Samoa is paramount.

However the Government has approved flights to repatriate American Samoans back to the US territory but is not allowing inbound travellers to Samoa.

This is evident as this week starting Thursday, repatriation flights to American Samoa started.

The American Samoa Government’s requirement for the COVID-19 for passengers to be tested before arrival was waived.

Instead, travellers are being tested upon arrival at Pago Pago International Airport.
