Two Police officers have resigned and three suspended.
This is in relation to the Police Standard Unit investigation after the identity of Police officerssurfaced from interrogations of drugs defendants arrested and charged in the recent drug raids.
The swift actions is a result of the investigation by the Ministry of Police and Prisons that started last month.
This was confirmed by Deputy Commissioner Auapa'au Logoitino Filipo in response to questions from Radio Polynesia on Saturday evening.
“I can only confirm the suspension of three Police officers and resignation of two cops,” said Auapa'au.
He declined to comment on the status of the investigation noting that it is ongoing. Asked on the ranks of the Police Officers suspended and resigned, Auapa'au also declined to comment.
Last months Minister of Police and Prisons, Faualo Harry Schuster confirmed internal investigation carried out to remove “corrupt police officers on the force” in their alleged involvement in dealing and using drugs.
In doing that, the Minister confirmed an internal investigation has been launched after evidence discovered in relation to Police Officers involved in using of hard drugs such as methamphetamine or ice.
The Minister told Radio Polynesia in earlier interviews, that he’s encouraged that the Senior Management are conducting an investigation into allegations of members of the force involved in drug taking.
