New charges has been filed against Viliamu Tuigamala and Joseph Lafaele for obtaining by deception in relation to an incident that occurred in 2019, where they allegedly cashed cheques valued at more than $600 tala.

The men are jointly charged.

They appeared in the Supreme Court this week, however their matter has been referred to court due to the monetary value of the alleged deception is not in the jurisdiction of the Supreme Court.

The men will also be sentenced this Friday on a separate matter but similar charges.

They pleaded guilty to 13 criminal counts of obtaining by deception, it is alleged that more than 20 people each paid $300 cash to Lafaele and Faaleleiga.

The men posed as seasonal workers agents for the Ministry of Commerce Industry and Labour.

Lafaele and Faaleleiga are remanded in the custody of the Police.

They were arrested in October, following complaints lodged with the Ministry of Police and MCIL, whereas some of the victims turned up at the Faleolo international airport after they were told by the defendants that a flight will arrive to take them overseas.
