Former Samoan-New Zealander heavyweight boxer, To'aletai Faumuina David Tua has been inducted, into the Florida Boxing Hall of Fame Class of 2022 in America.

Nicknamed Tuamanator, he attended the event virtually over the weekend, was joined by other members of the Class of 2022.

The boxing hall of fame's mission is to honour former boxers and those who have contributed to boxing.

The 49 year old from from Faleatiu, was a highly ranked heavyweight contender for most of his career. He competed from 1992 to 2013 and was known for his formidable punching power, especially in his devastating left hook.

He was ranked by BoxRec as the world's top 10 heavyweight from 1996 to 2003, reaching his highest ranking of No.3 in 1998 and was ranked 48th on a list of 100 greatest punchers of all time.

The induction requirements for a boxer, is winning three or more senior amateur titles, or won two or more senior national titles, or competed in at least five main event in the professional ranks.

In 2001 David was appointed a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to boxing and in 2019 was elevated to an Officer of the New Zealander Order of Merit for services to the youth, boxing and the community.

He remains an active community member and boxing coach.
