A man has been arrested and charged with attempted murder and actual bodily harm for the assault of his step-son who is fighting for his life at the intensive care unit at the hospital.
The Criminal Investigation Division made the arrest in Savai’i today.
This week, the Ministry of Police and Prisons sought the public’s assistance after the 16 year old male was found unconscious at a bus stop in town.
Deputy Police Commissioner Auapaau Logoitino Filipo confirmed the charges and acknowledged the assistance of the public for providing information that led to the charges today.
According to the Police, the young man was assaulted by his step father and then he ran away to Upolu, taking the last ferry on Monday.
At the early hours of Tuesday morning, the young man found unconscious at the bus stop and thats when bystanders contacted the Police and the Fire Emergency Services Authority for assistance.
To date the young man remains in a coma due to the severity of his injuries.He’s from Taga, Savai’i.
