The Ministry of Police are implementing the zoning policy they put in place as part of the National COVID-19 plan, during the extended lockdown, in line with the hours allowed for the public to shop between 8am to 2pm today and Thursday.

Acting Police Commissioner Auapaau Logoitino Filipo explained that is the cause of traffic near the town are at the police checkpoints as the officers are questioning the public, on information of their residences; their vaccination cards and inform them to shop or visit the medical facilities within their zones.

This has caused a lot of confusion and criticism from the public as to why the police are checking the vaccinations cards, when the shops, banks and offices requires the public to showcase their cards and wearing face mask before they can enter the shops.

However Acting Police Commissioner appeals to the public to observer and adhere the zoning areas they have outlined in line with the conditions of the lockdown from 8am to 2pm Today and Thursday for the public to replenish the necessary supplies, cash power etc.

Auapaau explained they are implementing their National; COVID-19 plan, in any case, there is a community COVID-19 case.

The Acting Police Commissioner added Samoa does not have a Community case.

There are four zone in place and first zone is Apia to Ma’alauli Fagalii; Apia to Vailimi and Apia to Vaitele; zone two is Vailele to Falefa; Vailima up to Tiapapata and Vaitele to Puipa’a; zone 3 is Faleula to Saleimoa and zone 4 is Sale’imoa to the west side.

The Police says there is no zoning policy for Savaii.

The Acting Police Commissioner concluded by reminded the public to adhere the SOE enforcements, including not taking children to public areas.
