There are five Chief Executive officers whose extension of contracts have ended including the Ministry of Customs and Revenue Commissioner, Matafeo Avalisa Viali-Fautua'ali’i, whose last day in office was yesterday.

This was confirmed by Deputy Prime Minister, Tuala Iosefo Ponifasio in an interview with Radio Polynesia.

The Deputy Minister said after Cabinet’s decision earlier this week, the Ministers whose CEO’s that affected, should inform them of the directive from Cabinet.

Tuala said that Matafeo was informed about the decision on Wednesday evening that it was her last day in office.

Cabinet has opted to end the extension of the contracts for the Chief Executive Officers, at the same time allow the Public Service Commission to complete the normal hiring process for the positions.

Tuala however did not name the other four CEO, noting the respective Minister will have to comment on the contract of the CEO under their portfolio.

Radio Polynesia reached out to Matafeo for comment, but were unsuccessful.

As reported earlier in December the Public Service Commission made a submission to Cabinet for a three months extensions to allow for the normal process, such as advertising the positions, which was approved.

The PSC has yet to complete the process for some of the CEO positions, hence the Cabinet move last week to end the extension of the contract and release the CEO’s while they re-apply for their position if they wish to do so, at the same time allow for the PSC to complete the normal process, this includes the outgoing CEO of the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, Fualau Talatalaga Mata’u Matafeo and CEO for the Ministry of Works Transport and Infrastructure, Magele Hoe Viali.

Last week, the Commission of the Public Service Commissioner, Lauano Vaosa Epa in response to question from Radio Polynesia says that all matters/conditions relating to employment of Government Contractual Officers are issues strictly confidential to the Public Service Commission and Cabinet and not to be divulged to any unrelated party(s).
