Member of Parliament Lupematasila Tologata Leia has appealed to the FAST Administration to consider random drug testing across the public servants, starting from Members of Parliament.
He expressed concerns over the increase of hard drugs in the Country, with the latest drug bust, led to the arrest of an Assistant Electoral Commissioner.
The former CEO says this is evident these hard drugs can only be afforded by people with money.
Lupematasila then urged the Government to consider his plea as this will assist with the drug problem in the Country.
The former CEO for the Electric Power Corporation said in 2020 EPC started in-house drug testing program this is to eliminate the use of drugs as its too risky for staff who are "high" on drugs to be working.
Another issue raised by Lupematasila in Parliament is the immediate suspension of the daylight saving. He said there should have been a consultation before the Government took action.
The Member of Parliament asked the Government to provide evidence of the inefficient of the daylight saving and pointed out the law should have been repealed before the Government took action, which is the lawful thing to do.
However Minister of Public Enterprises, Leatunu’u Wayne So’oialo explained the daylight saving was only endorsed by the Head of State in the first year it was introduced and every year after that, it was practiced without the endorsement of the Head of State as stipulated under the Act; therefore it was an illegal practice by the previous Administration.
