The Government has activated its evacuation sites as Samoa continues to experience severe weather conditions due to the location of an active convergence zone in the vicinity of Samoa.

In a statement issued by the National Emergency Operation Committee, states the weather continues to cause cloudy periods and increased moisture in the atmosphere. Heavy rain and flood warning was issued yesterday for Samoa and remains valid as of this evening.

"As of last night, evacuation sites have been activated for residents in the Apia urban should the situation escalates and requires immediate evacuation.

These evacuation sites are located at the NUS compound at Vaivase, the ADRA SDA Hall at Lalovaea, Gym 2 and the Multipurpose Gym at Tuanaimato.

The public is advised to ensure the safety and protection of families especially the children, elderlies and those with special needs."

The public are asked to avoid river banks and flooded areas and must stay alert, watchful and observant of possible risks and threats.

"We also advise to boil water before drinking and observe good personal hygiene.

The relevant authorities continue to monitor major water levels, rivers and roads to ensure safety and security of our people and resources. For emergencies, please contact 997 (NEOC) or 911 (Fire and Emergency)"
