The Bank of the South Pacific continues to lend a hand to families that require assistance in terms of school tuitions through the bank’s scholarship scheme, which has been ongoing for over 10 years.

For the new school year, BSP was able to offer more than 70 scholarships across the Country in the monetary value of over $40,000 tala.

The scheme in question is not limited to just BSP’s customers.

BSP’s Manager Taituuga Maryann Lameko-Vaai said this is one way the bank gives back to the community.

In a statement issued, states that BSP Samoa awards the winners of the BSP School Scholarship 2022 – a vital program that gives high performing students particularly from families who are struggling to make ends meet, the helping hand they deserve to be able to stay in school and continue their education.

This is not the first time BSP Samoa has offered these scholarships and this year we received over 250 applications. Scholarships deliver financial assistance to students in primary school and high school or college levels.

A panel selected from the BSP Management team awarded the scholarships not just based on merit as noted in the school reports, but the panel also review the testimonies as evidence for families who are facing financial challenges and will find it difficult to keep their children in school, especially during these COVID pandemic challenges.

From the 270 applications the Bank received and after careful consideration, we are happy to announce that 74 scholarships are awarded to students from Upolu and Savaii.

“For over 10 years, BSP has paved the way in providing assistance to families who are struggling to send their kids to school due to financial hardship.

"We are extremely proud to see past and present recipients progressing well in their education journeys, with some now moving on to higher education at the university level. Whilst it’s unfortunate that we couldn’t provide assistance to all the 270 applicants, but we hope that we will be able to assist more families in the future” said BSP Samoa Country Head - Maryann Lameko-Vaai.

BSP plans to continue with this program as part of its commitment to the Community.
