The 17-year-old charged with arson in relation to an incident out of Sa’anapu where he allegedly lid a fire while a man was filling a gallon with petrol at the gas station, appeared in the Supreme Court for criminal mention.

The court heard yesterday the family of the defendant has already performed a traditional apology to the owner of the gas station and the apology was accepted by the owner.

Penerose Peneueta appeared before Supreme Court Justice Nia’ava Mata Keli-Tuatagaloa, who released him out on bail.

The defendant is represented by Quentin Sauaga and prosecuting was Lupematasila Iliganoa Atoa.

A CCTV circulating on line saw the young man was accompanied by two other men in the bed of a dyna truck.

While another man was filling a gallon with petrol, the accused lid a fire against the gallon and that’s what started the fire. The men immediately jumped off the truck at the same time, the dyne truck drove away from the affected pump.

The gas station is owned by Member of Parliament Lea’ana Ronnie Posini.

Peneueta’s was realised on bail with conditions that he surrenders his travel documents to the Court Registrar and report to the Poutasi police station to sign ever Friday.

Furthermore, the defendant was ordered to stay away from any petrol station, andnot to have any direct or indirect contact with prosecution witnesses and remain a law abiding citizen.
